RAY F. BADNESS - SPECIAL EFFECTS IMPULSE RESPONSE (IR) MODELS VOL. 2 : Frequency Band Booster
RAY F. BADNESS - SPECIAL EFFECTS IMPULSE RESPONSE (IR) MODELS VOL. 2 : Frequency Band Booster
Want to easily boost different frequency bands in your NAM models ?
Sometimes NAM models might not cut through your song mix. Or, sometimes you just might want to add a simple effect to a guitar riff. That's where these custom impulse response (IR) models from RFB come in. They boost different frequency bands in the NAM model output as you cycle through the set.
Who are these custom special effects Impulse Response (IR) models for ?
They are for modern digital-guitarists/musicians who want to EASILY expand the tonal character of their present NAM models.
Nothing changes with how you run NAM. There aren't any new or complicated apps to install or learn here. What's more, installing additional software can risk slowing the signal processing capabilities of your computer. And who wants that ?! Do you really want to add another IR app or plug-in to your rig ?
Unlike many IR modelers and loaders on the market today, the beauty of the NAM software is that the graphical user interface (GUI) is dirt-simple. These custom IR models don't change that.
There are no new apps to install or master here. Just select one of the custom impulse response (IR) models from the set and enter it into the NAM GUI. These custom IR's can be applied to most any NAM model.
What's the story behind these custom Impulse Response (IR) models ?
Most NAM users are aware that NAM model character can be changed by using different speaker/cabinet impulse response (IR) models. That's part of the fun. So RFB set out to make a simple set of custom IR's to easily accent various frequency bands simply by selecting a different custom IR model.
Why ? For any given NAM model, even after you adjust the 3 knob EQ in the NAM GUI, certain frequency bands of your guitar tone might not be accented as much as you'd like. That might be due to a poor NAM model, your thick song mix, or something else. If so, these custom IR models are a simple/easy option to change things up.
These custom Impulse Response models from RFB are not available anywhere else.
Where do you get the FREE NAM software plugin (VST or AU) to play the custom models ?
At github.
Download Steve Atkinson's FREE NAM software at Github.com/sdatkinson/neuralampmodelerplugin
What if you don't like using complex DAW's to run VST/AU plug-ins ?
You're in luck ! For dirt-simple usage, Steve Atkinson's NAM software runs standalone on Mac's and PC's (no DAW required). The NAM models also plug-in to Apple's MainStage app, and standalone VST plug-in players. Another simple option is to use the FREE audio editor Audacity. And if you like stomp boxes, some of them support NAM models. There is even an online player at www.thenam.online
How do you use the NAM Graphical User Interface (GUI) ?
After launching the NAM software/plug-in, there are 3 easy steps :
- Select your NAM model by entering the name in the top box of the NAM GUI.
- In the bottom box, select the name of your special effects (SFX) impulse response model (i.e. the wav files included).
- Adjust the input volume knob to change the break-up character of the model. NOTE : Single-coil and humbucker pickups typically produce different break-up dynamics and character.
